Hi,
Complete newby here and wanted some info if possible. Looking to buy my first bike and just missed out on the black 2009 one dansv sold on here last week. Seemed a cracking bike and awesome price now its hard to find one that compares! Is there a rough price guide somewhere like parkers price guide? for some reason it only goes up to a 56 plate and im looking to by 08/09 ish. I found one 58 plate in graphite with extras (scorpion can, tail tidy, crash protectors, Alarm and heated grips) Doesnt have original exhaust though any problem with this as I noticed most people selling normally include standard one too. Its done 11500 miles thought, is this a lot in biking terms for its age? will it massively affect sale on if I put another 6-8k on over 2 years. Its just Most bikes this age have few thousand miles on if not less. What would you consider a good price for this bike. Dealer price and private price? Any advice would be much appreciated Thanks |

obviously the more miles on it, the cheaper it will be, it's all swings and roundabouts, 11k is not a lot for the bike imo 4-5k per year, some do 11k per year. As this is your first bike it may be better to get an older one so you won't be so bothered if you were to drop it, most of us do

Best thing to do would be to look at the bikes on sale in MCN, Biketrader and ebay it'll give you an idea of the prices there going for.

a k8 on a 58 plate about £2,800 at a dealers, but bare in mind the major service is due a 15K (circa £180 at a main dealers) so haggle at least that off.
As rob said search the MCN and bike trader that'll give you the best guide on the prices. Whats your budget and location as I could show you two low miles pointies at a dealers without thinking about it. Welcome to the org btw

Thanks guys so much for your replies.
Prices seem quite high at the moment checking out online certainly not seen a 58 plate from dealers at £2,800 anywhere. They all seem £3500-£4000 He advertised at £3600 but came back at £3350 think I might get a bit more off it but not much. Really tried to push for 3k but dont think I got a chance I'm based 40 mins north of Cambridge I am prepared to travel though for a good bike at a good price. |

Keep looking.Dealers will always inflate the price and unless you buy from a local shop for the aftersales service you are throwing money away.I would repeat the advice to buy an old one first, make your mistakes on it,then get a nice one to keep in about a year, but if you must have a late one now,go for a private sale, one owner bike.Make sure there is no crash damage and its been serviced properly.Mileage doesnt matter as long as the oil changes are done on time and the price is right.

Thanks for the advice, It is not a local dealers at all so your right not really any aftersales service at all. Just a little extra peace of mind I guess.
Trouble is apart from the one that sold on here last week I have looked on MCN/Bike trader/ebay and local searches and really not a low mile 08/09 one for under 3k even private sale which there are not many at all. I guess the prices will soon rise for spring/summer too. I'll try and negotiate further see what i can get good thing is it does have all the extras I would like and I guess they add to the value too. If anyone knows or has seen mint looking 08/09 sport with full fairings <£3k please let me know low miles with extras a bonus. Thanks again guys |
