Default flatter bars - 2004 pointy

bought an sv650 cuz it was a bargain and gorgeous looking.

Generally happy with it though it needs a new tyre but the one thing I am thinking of changing is the bars, it came with what I assume are the standard bars which are lower set than I am used to, bit racy.

been working on slow speed control but not convinced i will ever feel as fully in control as I would with flatter bars

I am considering fitting slightly flatter bars, probably like you would get on a GS500, maybe with a double bubble screen

thoughts? experience?

I fitted a new top yoke from a naked, got some custom risers and a mad as a box of frogs purple bar. It looks strange, it rides like a Motorcrosser and is so comfortable I can do hundred mile blasts with out twitching my sphincter!

I'm sorry Jayne, but those are the worst bars I've ever seen on a SV!

Why is your switchgear so far along, are the wires and cables tight?
I'd have cut an inch or two off the bar ends. If, the bars were black or silver

On paper I shouldn't like them but, actually, I rather do. Goes well with the silver I think.

Agree you need to do something with that switchgear though. RH switchgear from a naked might do it. Presumably that would come with longer cables and would be easier/more reliable than extending what's there with crimp connectors etc, which is a HUUUGE pain in the whotsit.

Oh and a naked brake reservoir. I really don't like the plastic res on flat bars but that's my own personal hang-up.

Fitting a taller screen, double-bubble or otherwise, is better than the standard for reducing wind effects. You can tuck your head down, and out the wind, on long motorway runs. Much better.

You are entitled to your opinion, even if it is misguided, ill informed or just plain wrong!

The Switch gear was a problem, but that was solved a while later when we rewired the lot and rerouted the cables so that they run a lot more smoothly. That was a job and a half and one I was paranoid I would get wrong. However, working slowly and methodically it all worked out and she runs lovely now.

Next wanted upgrade is a comfortable seat, probably in purple leather to match the bars and painting on the side panels. Then maybe one day she can have the hard luggage I want too. She will be unlike any other SV on the road when I have finished making her how I want her.
