Default Awesome road

Hey guys n gals, how ya all doin'? Went down the dalveen pass on sunday in the car & remembered how good a road it was. Even good fun in the car & it was wet although a few potholes on it just now

Can't wait till the sun shows it's face again as I'm sure we all feel the same. This is prob my fav road on the bike so far. Me n gerry went down it last summer on the bikes n it was amazing. And a few of us went on a ride out down it too, great day out. Open road with a great mix of fast bends & straights.

It's the A702 from junc 13, (I'm sure it's 13) southbound on the M74 through Elvanfoot & eventually takes you into Dumfries.
You have to try it out, bloody great fun

Hope to see ya all soon

I'll be going down it for the 1st time on our trip up in April random question but is it better from the mway heading to dumfries or the other way round? We're setting off from newton stewart and heading in Moffat direction

Hi mate, I've been down it from the m/way (which is downhill) more times than I've came up but suppose it's your own preference.
It's just the fact that the bends are nice clean bends & the road is wide open in a lot of parts so you can see the degree of the coming bends, also a lot of the road has been resurfaced so nice n smooth.
Hope you like but I'm sure you will, have fun :P

No argument from me.

Why not fry yer bonce and loop back on the Mennock/Wanlockhead/Elvanfoot road and make it a loop. A lot more tight and twisty on the way up to "Scotlands highest village" but opens out heading towards Elvanfoot.

Think Tiger55 led us on a SV run down there a few years ago. I remember well cos it was scorchio.
Remember scorchio? Nah me neither, hardly.

My throttle hand is itching to do some proper roads again too.

Struggling at the mo' to get my SV suspension bushes replaced in time for the Ice-Cream run. Ordered, but not even in the country.

SV4me - google map Newton Stewart to Elvanfoot, that is an excellent road, if the dalveen pass is not your favourite bit of road, the bit from Dalry to Moniaive has got to be. A702 is awesome.

What date are you doing this? as I would be well up for joining you! I thought you were coming up 7/8th of may?

Personnelly I prefer to ride from thornhill up to elvanfoot, the middle section climbing the hills is my fav

thats the plan mate, a702 all the way to elvanfoot, stop for lunch in moffat and then across to selkirk, kelso and the east coast for another nights camping. Youre more than welcome to join us for the ride and even the camping if you fancied it this ones 15th-17th April, staying in newton the friday night. Would have been later in the year this but my mate off here was a bit about getting away on the bikes.

And were still doing the Skye trip, thats 6th-10th May now. So you guys might be seeing a lot of me, you lucky son bi**hes

SIII slight change of plan were still up that weekend but staying in the campsite in moffat friday and saturday night now. Means more time for drinkies, no need to pack the b@stard tent up again sat morning and we can enjoy the ride without lugging all our stuff around.

Idea for morning ride would be something like
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...4&ie=UTF8&z=12

And afternoon stroll could be
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...,1.229095&z=10

There'll be a loop of talla reservoir on the way out on sunday too methinks, looks great
