Default Splutering and Missing

Hi,

It's been a while. I was hoping one of you might be able to help.

My SV650 sk6 has issues.

It has a strange problem. Somedays its fine. Others it does the following.

Won't idle or idles at very low RPM
Splutters and misses up to 4Krpm. But then fine after that
Backfires a lot
Uses a lot more fuel(About 20miles per tank!)

Any ideas?

Cheers

G

Can i clarify? Are you saying it only does 20 miles on a whole tank of fuel?

sounds like it has a temp sensor fault, causing it to massively over fuel. may even be disconnected or water in the connection. when the coolant temp sensor goes open circuit it sends a engine temp of -100 or sumit to ecu so it richens mixture right up

check the connector it should be somewhere on one of the cylinder heads
and if you have a multimeter check sensor for open circuit

Thanks guys,

I'm getting about 115miles per tank! Normally get 130-135.

Temp reading on the clock is normal.

Put popping would suggest excess fuel. Or lack of spark?

But then in the higher rev range it is fine...

Ideas?

its a 2 wire sensor that will either be on a cylinder head, screwed into it or maybe in the thermostat housing, the single wire one to the sensor is normally nearby too, i cant be specific tho without lookin at it

single wire one is normally the readout one

My guess is you leave it outside, the tank overflow pipe has corroded through, water/rust in fuel and a big leak.
