Default Would a GSXR1000 be too much

for a first track bike?

Im on the hunt for a track bike. I dont really have any preferance other than I would like an IL4.

Have been looking at all sorts, Steelie CBR's, SRAD GXSR's 600/750, zx6r's etc.
But I have seen a K1 GSXR1000 with tons of extras going for an amazing price but just wondering will I do myself a mischief?

I have previously owned an SV650, Ducati 749S and currently have a Hypermotard 1100S. All V-twin and torquey.

Cheers for your thoughts.

Track riding is different to road riding, having the fastest bike doesn't make you a good track rider its more likely scare you and you wont progress.

Personally I think a 400 or a 650 is a great way to start wont frighten you on the straight and you need to keep up your corner speed.

I have spent lots of times being blitz by the latest 1000cc on the straights only to catch up with them wobbling round the corners.

Its got a thing on it called a "throttle"

This is a rudimentary "speed control device" and can be used to varying degrees.

Buy it!

Yes it'll be a handfull at first, but you dont HAVE to be flat out down the straights, to learn how to corner properly.

+1 on the responses to "is it too much for me responses"

Have you thought of the fuel bill?

Will the thou be much thirstier than a smaller bike?

If its cheap enough go for it - it wont be as nimble as a 600 but it wont be "too much".

I had tonnes of fun on my 750 - can't talk from experience but apparently they're quicker steering than 1000's, fast enough to get past the 600's and generally keep up with the 1000's on most tight technical circuits like cadwell (apart from that big straight after chris' curve and the start/finish) or croft.

Chris knows how to do corners ok.

Go for it mate, you'll love it but to be honest, You would be fine on a 600 or 750 too.

You know how to corner and are smooth enough to be able to work a smaller bike and may get more of a reward than riding a litre bike.

+ 1 to this. And i only ride a 500 on the track, does my swede in when people brake for corners that i can take quicker

If its your first track bike i dont suggest gettin a litre bike. Might be an idead to get use to track riding on something smaller first

Buy it - you need to get a shift on and get one as Sillystone is only round the corner!
