As above, whilst I had the front end off, thought it would be a good idea to change plugs. Rear one piece of the proverbial, front one..right pain in the arris!
Couldn't for the life of me get the plug cap off, eventually it did free, then couldn't get the socket to go over the spark plug. After much effing and cursing, realised why, the little rubber washer/grommit that sits around the bottom of the plug cap hadn't come off, in fact it had 'welded' itself to the plug. Now had to drop the rad altogether to gain better access and pick/probe/fiddle the bits off so I could eventually get the plug socket on. 20 minute job turned into a 2 hour one. Now here's where you come in, anyone have a spare one kicking about ? Pics below, sorry about the quality but gives the jist of the bit wanted, What it should look like; ![]() The bits that came off; ![]() Anyone help? Tia, Tj |

Thats crazy! Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday on the front plug. Took me ages to work out why I couldn't get the socket over the plug -cue head scratching and multiple cups of tea then I looked at the rear lead and noticed the rubber bit. Spent an eternety with various size tweezers trying to get the rubber bit out before getting the plug out. Noticed that bits of the rubber had melted themselves to the spark plug and that had stopped it coming out with the lead.
Would like to know if there is any way to stop this happening again? Also, same as TJ, would like to know where I can get these rubber bits without having to buy a new HT lead. Last edited by aliwakeskate; 27-03-11 at 06:01 PM. |

I had this happen. The answer, fit a new cap. NGK straight one does the job nicely. Worked for me and my bike is back to lovely again. If it happens again, I have the forceps so can get down there now!
It is a bugger... ![]() |
