All to do with the yen rate.
If new bikes go up in price, used bikes will follow suit as it's the new bikes which set the benchmark on what bikes are worth. |

Was looking at a few last week in the local dealers, most of the prices were scary for used, even the high mileage ones

They might have it up for that, I bet they dont sell it for that, that's stupid money.

I still can't believe dealers are demanding £5-5.5k for an SV sport.
Paid £4k for a pre-reg with 3 years 0% A.P.R 3 years ago. Only different not full fairings. |

Not sure about new prices but used vehicles in general are holding their value/prices on the up with the decline in people buying new.
*no stats to back that up, it's more or less opinion!

Any decent new bike with a few extras is going to cost £8.5k which in my book is a lot of money for what to most is a toy rather than a necessity. Dealers can make more profit from used sales than new which is perhaps the reason used prices are holding.

I bought my SV sport new for 3800 5 years ago! 600rr for £5800 4 years ago, traded that in for £4000 at just over just under 4 years old.
Our exchange rate is poo for new bikes.

Inflation and exchange rate led im afraid. Other countries are in a stronger position than the UK and the Yen versus Dollar price is not anywhere near what it was 3 years ago. Based on standard UK inflation prices havent actually gone up as much as they "should" compared to what we were paying 10 years ago and certainly not compared to some other products or even daily staples. |

I appreciate the currency rate etc but the trouble dealers will have is that people like me will walk in, balk at the cost of a new bike and walk straight out.
I was in the market for a new or nearly new bike but there is no way i'm willing to pay £8000 plus for a 600. If the prices don't become sensible then people just won't spend out. My salary hasn't shot up to cope with the price so sensibly I just won't buy one. I trust the majority of people are in a similiar situation. |
