Default Test rode the new speed triple.

Well, I want a new bike and can't make my mind up between a Tuono, speed triple or super duke, So i've tested the Super Duke and will be again soon, but yesterday I test rode the new Speed Triple, originally thought I would be on the old style (which I prefer looks wise), but when I arrived they had the new style ready and waiting, I thought to myself "I can't afford a new new one but I'll give it ago anyways".

First impressions were hmmmmm I'm not sure on those lights but all doubt about the bike went as soon as the sale person started that baby, oh wow just like the super duke with the akras (this had twin arrows) it sounded like a muscle car, or as a friend put it the bike moves the world around it not the other way round, so I pulled off gave it some welly in 1st rolled off the throttle (thanks to a car ) and I heard pop pop pop oh my god my zx6 does this too but jesus not to this standard, big .

Anyway, to get to Milton Keynes to show the wife the beast, I thought country lanes is the only way to go, and first off all it felt weird but in a good way, very nice and smooth with no chug chug chug just effortless, I remember thinking to myself this bike is just effortless no vibration no nothing but except the suspenion was hard, it did handle very well I would say because of the riding postiion it felt more natural than the zx6 and felt as though I had more control, but it did also feel like I was going faster than you actually was.

So I left the country lanes and went up the A5, gave it a nice handful of throttle and like most bikes it pulls like a freight train, strong and smooth but this for me was a little unnerving because the front wheel was squirming around a little, now it was dry and wind free, but I did get used it and got to 115mph until traffic slowed me down, came off the A5 met the wife (who liked it, thankfully) headed back to Triumph had a chance to filter and at slow speeds it's very managable (this is were the super duke failed slightly for me), one thing I did notice through is I did about 20 miles or so, when I left Triumph the bike said I had 110 miles left to the tank but after my 20 mile or so journey I was left with about 75 left so it eats fuel, but it is 1050cc.

Got back on my zx6 and the wrist pain started straight away and although I love the power of the zx6 it's not something that is going to make me keep it.

here are some pics of the beast, oh and two more things the lights are awesome compared to my zx6 for illumination perposes, still ugly though, and the mirrors actually work well.

So the bike gets a massive from me.

Always nice to hear peoples views and thoughts on bikes.
Are you test riding the Tuono?

I went to my Triumph dealership yesterday just to look at the Tiger 800 and the Street and Speed Triples, they offered up the best trade in deal for my SV I've had from anywhere yet too...

There is just something about those Triple cylinder bikes...

I'll be doing some demo rides through the summer, I plan on a new bike for next season unless I get the deal of a century offered

Have you test ridden the Tuono yet? I just wonder how you feel that compares to the Speed Triple and Super Duke?

Have you tried heli bars on the zx6r. I put some on the p7f and it made a more relaxed ride.

Not test rode the Tuono yet but is next on my hit list, the speed triple is a much smoother ride than the Super Duke, but the Duke is more exciting, for day to day use i'm leaning towards the triple.

Squirmy front end is probably just due to the wider bars, ie its you and little movements that causes it, not the bike.

I have that feeling when I get on the Zed after being on the SV

They're not that bad nowadays are they? I heard of the oil leaks of the past and that they can drink engine oil generally too...but not now surely?

Something about those triples was a good sentiment...i.e. the sound, the smoother delivery versus a twin but more low down grunt than an IL4 etc etc

By all means educate me

I really wanted a 675 but was put off them by the dealer. Everyone I know that's had one since I considered has had fairly major problems (admitidely mainly on the 1050 engine)... but all have had build quality issues. Ask Orose or Specialone. Rear pads and disc needing replacing at 3k???
