Default Fitting Aftermarket Front Indys - pointy

Just a quick question.
Looking at changing the front indys on my 08.

I've had a quick look at the bracket on the stock ones, and i cant quite see/make out how they are attatched to the fairing.

Do you have to take the whole nose unit off to change the indys?
Or can you do it without, it looks like i could probably get a stubby screw driver in the gap.

But i dont really want to start the job, then find out half way through i cant finish it, and i dont want to take the front end/nose bit off!

So can you replace the indys without taking the nose off?

Thanks Chaps

you can but its a pain and its nuts on the end of the indys. you will also need indicator plates to fit the aftermarket ones and loom connectors.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MOTORCYCLE-IND...item1e6249b6cd

the top faring comes off in about 5 mins. be careful of the frame brackets scratching the pointy bits on the upper faring when taking it on and off.

to take nose cone off:

take mirrors off.
take black screws out of triangle infill panels.
take allen bolts out of black clock surround where it joins the nose cone below the infill panels.
take black screws out of upper nose cone above the morrors (mark separate in a little bag).
loosen the clock surround away from the nosecone.
pry nosecone away from the mirror mounts.
go to front of bike and tug on nosecone but dont fully pull it away from the bike as there is a small connector block thet you have to pull apart. its a juggling act

when installing the nosecone note that there are 2 rubber washers that the lugs on the clocks slip into. use a wee dab of gresae or oil when pushing nosecone back on.

AND REMEMBER TO PLUG THE CONNECTOR BACK IN

thanks for the reply.

hmmm im not sure why, im just really reluctant to take the front off!
So it is possible without removing the front...is it like, easily possible? or should i just man up and take off the front?

Yeah iv seen those plates, however i was thinking just snip off the old wires and crimp the new ones on, i guess a new loom connector is much neater though

man up

you will need the plates...............

the wires you can snip but if you spend a 10nr on the leads you can sell the indys

you can do it without taking the front off using the triangle infill panels and under the faring but as i said its a pain.

Easy to do with out taking the front off, just take the standard indicator lens off, then unscrew all you can from the inside. After that just give it a prise with a flat screwdriver to remove the rubber from the fairing (careful not to scratch the front) then pop on the new indicators. You may have to have abit of a fiddle with the wires but i just cut them and rewired them from the outside of the fairing in about 10 mins each side. Very easy to do!

Im not too fussed about selling the Stock ones, idealy id like to keep them incase i ever wanted to return it completelty to stock, cant really see myself ever actually doing it, but its nice to have the option.

Sorry yeah, i've known i need the plates. Find them cheap enough on ebay.
I've got no problem with the wiring side of things, id rather save the £10 and do it myself to be honest

thanks again for the replies
