Default New Toy

I picked up my new toy this morning. Haven't had much time to ride it yet as I've got Luis for the weekend and had to pick him up from his mum this afternoon.

It's a 2009 Triumph Thruxton, with 4K on the clock and £4.5K on the price tag.

First thoughts are that it feels like a toy in comparison with the Tiger. It's so small and light. Though it would feel big and heavy compared to a sportsbike. It's around 70bhp, so about the same power as a SV, though it doesn't feel quite as quick. It's got Norman Hyde peashooter 'silencers', so sounds amazing.

It's nippy, but not super-fast and the brakes (or rather, brake) should be much better. I think that it's going to be much more fun for city riding than the Tiger, but nowhere near as good once you get out of town.

I'll keep the Tiger for now, but may eventually go back to having just one bike.

I still haven't met the (female) owner of the white H*nda parked behind it. Luis said that he didn't like the Thruxton and preferred the H*nda, but then kids tend to prefer McDonalds over smoked salmon and caviar and milkshakes over single malt.

I actually quite like thoughs, as long as you accept them for what they are, it's a really fun ride, hope you enjoy it.

Cheers Mark.

And having had it only 2 weeks, I've dropped it already. Entirely my fault, a momentary lapse of concentration and didn't notice traffic in front slowing. I hit the brake a bit too hard and locked the front wheel. I'm ok, landed on my hand which is probably going to be sore for a few days, but had leathers on so no major damage. The bike is quite badly damaged for a fairly low speed (around 20ish mph) drop. Rear brake and right footpeg gone, dent in tank, smashed mirror, cracked seat cowl and damaged right hand pipe. Looks like it's going to have to be an insurance job. I'm really not happy with myself at the moment, as this was 100% my fault.

Sorry to hear.
They are ace looking bikes.
(I'd really like a red one!)

you're ok...the bike will be as good as new once its fixed..

Must admit the sunny weather has brought its own distractions on the way to work. Plus the heat has generally made me feel a bit dozier.
