Default Service Manual v Haynes?

HI Lads/Lassies,

Was just wondering what the difference is/are between the Haynes and the Service Manual?

Cheers, Macker.

I find the service manual assumes more existing knowledge and experience. That's not to say the Haynes is all you need if you're a total noob. If you're going to do work on carbs, say, it's a good idea to understand in principle how they actually work first so a bit of googling can assist.

I use both manuals and you can get a fuller picture that way because they each have limitations (plus my early edition Haynes has some errors).

What they're not so good at is telling you how you might mess the job up or what unusual problems you might encounter. The org's very good for that.

When I've tackled jobs I didn't fully understand, the process has been;

Google some info to understand the system I'm working on.
Read Haynes and the service manual.
Search the org for relevant threads.

Workshop manual is miles better the the Haynes if you have a pointy. The link is for the one I'm selling but if you send me a disc/USB stick quick, with a return envelope, I'll gladly copy it for you.
