Default Adding bikes to insurance

Alright people,

Just wondering if insurance companies can sting you for adding another bike to your policy, obviously i have an sv and im with suzuki insurance, its pretty cheep, 800 notes, im 18 and iv been riding nearly 3 years. The other bike is a Yam xj600 i found on ebay for 350 notes, i have a quote for just that for 400 and thats pretty good, but adding them to my policy, what will that do? Their shut at the moment and just would like an idea.

PLUS!

I would also like to know how insurance companies handle with the mods that people put on their bikes, like exhausts etc...i havent notified them in a while and dont know weather i should. I just wanna know if they increase it by a lot, if not then ill notify them, because officially im not insured :/

Cheers

Chris

I tired with one or two companies last year and they said they wouldnt do it due to age. was 19 at the time.
Another issue was which bike was in the higher insurance group and therefore would have to be the main bike with the other added, which can then add more costs to switch it all around.
best bet is to ring around as many as possible, make sure you write everything down though as they like to sting you.

Dont know about suzuki insurance but "cosmetic" improvements eg exhaust, fairings and other bits didnt effect mine.
Best bet is to call them up or start looking else where for insurance when it comes around.

I added my ktm to my daytona policy and it cost me an extra 30 quid.
I'm guessing most of that was an admin charge too.

Cheers, I know a guy who's added a gsx750 to his sv acbd it cost him 80 but to add one and its less than 100 for most people then that's alright. The same guy also has loads of mods on his sv and they didn't charge him for that, but Li just wanted to make sure that's all

It depends on the insurer, they don't have to add it on, they could say "no" or "that will be eleventy bazillion pounds please".

Regarding mods, it depends on the mods and the insurer as to whether it could lead to problems in the event of a claim or not.

Had my SV and then added my new FZ6 on and it worked out cheaper than just having the SV on there! So they did it for free as no way would an insurance company refund anything! Think it was £220 TPFT for both as opposed to £280 for just the SV! Im 18 and had no problems getting them to add it on. As for modifications with my insurer they don't seem to mind what has been done as long as the value of mods doesn't exceed £1500 they don't touch the premium so I was told.

Some will say no due to the type of policy, some will offer silly prices because they really don't want to insure you on that bike, others will say yes and it makes it much cheaper to insure.

Eg: I've got 4/5 years (can't remember now) no claims on my SV, and pay around £250ish for my policy, I've recently got a Ninja and due to all my no claims being used on my SV, I couldn't use any on the Ninja, and would make it silly expensive to have with zero no claims.
However, by having both bikes on the same policy, using the same no claims, I managed to insure both for about £500 - which had the Ninja cost the same to insure as the SV!

equity red star through a site called wicked quotes, they are the cheapest for me by around £300. I havent had to claim yet so dont know what their service is like in that respect but policy amendments etc have been handled brilliantly.
