other than the speedo will this be a striaght swap. same head bearing? same steering stops? same steering lock? thanks for your help. |

just thought i should say that i am looking to do this mod after i crashed my sv into a mates tdm when he came off in front off me. my old boss (a bike mechanic i should add) says the forks are probably bent but hes unsure. and being a mechanic myself ive gave them a quick looking at and they seem fine. when im riding theres a clicking at the front end when i brake (probably head bearings mashed from the crash) but i havent had a propper look at anything. ive bodged on a curvy radiator that i got cheap and have been riding it since (about 2 months ago now) but i need to start doing the bike up. the front fairing and headlight was smashed so my mate glued them for a quick fix. i have sourced a whole front fairing (front fairing, under tray thing, screen, mirrors, indicators and head light) but although being described as like new is almost as bad as the one on the bike (repainted badly and cracked). so i am now thinking of vinyl wrapping the whole bike. i also need to get hold of a radiator which is proving to be very hard. if anyone has any advice on what they think i should be doing please feel free to advise.

Totally different, the forks on the old GSXR's are longer, the head bearings are different and they weigh loads more so the spring rates and damping will be wrong.

I suspect the stem on that front end will be the older Suzuki style. They'd probably be a straight swap for the curvy but not the pointy. Also, IIRC the forks are a bit longer which isn't what you want on the SV.
Don't take that as gospel (although I'm 90% sure). But apart from that - them's some old forks. ![]() I'm not sure what you're after though. Are you particularly looking to modify the bike or is it accident repair? If the latter, I'd get it stripped and see what's going on first - it sounds like you think it might only be bearings in which case you're sorted relatively easily. Used radiators do seem to be overpriced junk a lot of the time. I ended up getting a nice new Delkevic one after months of checking ebay. |

although its an old front end its gotta be better than the one thats on.
i would look into pressing the SV stem into the GSXR lower yoke and if needed opening up the top yoke to accommodate the SV stem and while i was at it fitting taper roller bearings. i would also look into the speedo drive as i think the older ones are cable driven but the housing and drive are the same as the SV so that might be a straight swap which would be good. if these things are a likely then i would look into stripping and servicing the GSXR forks with better valving and springs. as for the hight thing then you can always slide the forks up the yokes. there are probably a number of other things like the steering stops yada yada. but if you have the time and tools then anything is possible. |

Damping is terrible, shim over piston things. Head bearing at top is smaller, you need spacer. Lockstops totally wrong. IMO don't do it, not worth hassle. Buy better front end like K1-3 one.

I just cant find a newer front end. the only people that seem to be selling them are from america. and they are reasonably priced, until you add on the postage. 500 quid for a front end not including a wheel + brake discs is just not possible for me, I'm a 19 year old student with a minimum wage summer job.
I think I have found the source of the clicking at the front end. the thing that was throwing me off was it didn't always click when I braked. only when the suspension travelled a certain amount under braking. but I think the bodged on radiator is catching the front mudguard. so no big problem. I haven't cleaned the bike since I crashed it cos I just haven't been bothered to do nout. so I think im going to clean it up this weekend and take it down to my mates garage to get it fully checked over so i know what needs doing. I know it needs a new radiator, a new back tyre and i need to swap the nose for my new one. so for now the front end is going to have to wait. while there seems to be nothing wrong with the forks i want to upgrade them anyway as i found the stock ones very poor when i was riding the bike hard before the crash. in comparison to the bandit i had before it is shockingly bad. although hearing they are longer puts me off a little as i have had the rear of the bike lowered and it is still to high for me. well here are some pictures of the bike. first one is the earliest picture I have of the bike before the crash. then there are some just after the crash. the rest are as it stands now. before ![]() after the crash ![]() ![]() ![]() now ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
