Default Hello & oil prob's

Hi everyone, grand 2 c a site totally devoted 2 such a great bike. Can anyone come up with a suggestion 2 my problem? Everytime I go 2 Norfolk, which is about 410mile round trip by the time I've seen everyone, my bike either uses a hell of a lot of oil or leaks oil when we get back. It's a 56 reg SV650, it's also regularly serviced. Is it jus throwing it's toys outta the pram cos of a long trip or is somat else wrong? Mechanic & Suzuki garage aint got no ideas

Check your engine breather. If its blocked could force oil ino bits its not ment to and burn it. As for the oil dripping, can you see the area its coming from?

i burn a small amount of oil on long motorway trips but only a small amount.

Any idea of how much its using? emptying the view glass? more?

as for a leak go over all your hoses to the oil rad as this can be a problem.
Otherwise a good scrub and clean the talc powder over the engine and watch for the leak.

let us know what you find

There are two breather pipes that go from the crankcases to the airbox. These can come adrift and cause a leak.Another culprit can be the front sprocket area.If the sprocket nut has come loose it allows oil to escape from the gearbox output shaft in a similar way to as if the oil seal was caput.
You need to try and establish where the oil is coming from.
Also dont let it run low or your engine will go pop.

Thankyou for your replys guys. Sheps the oil was comin down in a line over the engine casing after the bike had bin moved, to clean & had bin standing 4 a couple of days. There was no oil on the garage floor but there was a bit in the belly pan of the fairin. BBadger oil was ok on way out but after trip it emptied the view glass. Biker Biggles it nearly went pop last yr with the same prob so we was x-tra carefull this yr, fills me full of confidence...lol. I'll give all your responses & anymore that may arrive, 2 the mechanic next wk & hopefully we can sort it out for Silverstone. Many thanks again

Well find where leak is coming from then. Engine breather hoses coming off where they go into airbox can give that issue.

Think I may have the front sprocket problem as noticed a bit of oil round that area that wasn't there a wk or so ago, is it best to strip it down and check or just try and tighten it back up?
