Default Free school dinners

Next door neighbour has just bragged that his kids get free school dinners. Don't have a problem if there was a genuine need.

He has a job, and his wife gave up her shop mgr's job coz the business she was putting together was doing well.

He has a brand new £46k 11 reg BMW. She has a brand new 11 reg Fiat 500. They've just bought a brand new Transit van. And have just had a ground floor extension built, and have just had plans drawn up for a loft conversion.

Chuffed they're doing well but ...claiming free school dinners! The system's seriously flawed.

Getting every little last bit of "value" is how those with money got it in the first place and how they keep it.

It's why I'll never be rich - I'm not Scum enough...

i don't care what anyone's current financial status is. free school meals should be a basic necessity as far as i'm concerned. just coz the parents make a loadsa dosh it don't mean that they look after their kids and make them meals for school times. at least if all school meals were free then every single child would have one meal a day. rich or poor. what i do object to is those same parents you are on about will be entitled to a school clothing grant.

No means testing for school meals at my daughters school - don't want to hurt anyones feelings do we?

Instead it's decided on postcode sector. Doesn't make much sense to me. So we're not saying you're poor, just that you live in the crap bit of town?

My prep school everyone had school dinners. It was part of the fee.

Age 13 and marriage breakdown I am suddenly at the local secondary school. Those with free dinner tickets, sold them for cig money.
