Unhappy Got Pulled Over :/

So I was riding down the road and came out of a large roundabout fairly quickly, not breaking the speed limit by that much but generally with some haste. About 500m down the road a marked vauxhall with blues and two's got me to pull over.

After a bollocking the officer said they'd been looking for my bike after having some complaints about it for some reason and that's why they'd stopped me. After actually having a look at the bike they'd realised that it wasn't the blue Yamaha they were looking for then after having the bike checked they said it didn't belong to me scaring the crap out of me, turns out they'd misread the registration on the radio...
Anyway the officer left saying that as he was local he'd keep an eye out for my bike and any time he'd have to stop me again, he'd send me a court notice with no chance for a on the spot fine etc...
The officer was convinced I had opened the throttle and blasted away from the round about, but in fact I'd pulled out of the roundabout fairly fast but then settled my speed straight after (still speeding a bit though) although I didn't argue with him, in stead was just crapping my self...

Basically this little incident, being my first with the fuzz has shook me up slightly. I'd lost the desire to ride and the whole looking out for me thing has me slightly rattled... Am I just being a big wuss? Will this officer really be looking out for me and will he really do what he had said, if he needs to?

Dan

Sounds like a bored copper in a power trip to me.

Maybe the donut shop was out of his favorites.

The guy sounds like a complete c0ck who either doesn't even know his own job or was just trying to sh!t you up a bit. I say sounds like because I only have your forum post to judge it on.

He can't just send you a "court notice", or even a court summons for that matter, if he was investigating a complaint he'd have to send you an NIP to begin with, then build his case, which would need to include evidence and/or witnesses before the CPS sending you a court summons within 6 months if the CPS decide he has a case.

Did he say he was looking for "a blue bike" which had generated some complaints, or did he say they had had complaints about "your bike"? If the latter he should have checked the bike's identity before telling you that IMO.

The registration c0ck up thing was a bit incompetent too, though anyone can make a mistake.

It's a bit hard to make a judgement on these things from a forum post and not actually being there and hearing exactly what the copper said.

He probably saw you were crapping yourself and decided to scare you a little so you might think twice about speeding round your area. I wouldn't worry about it, like Ralph said there are processes they have to go through they can't just take you straight to court. My brother in law is a copper and he said its easy to read most people when they are in pressure situations and his way of dealing with them changes with the same situation but different personalities (if you get what i'm trying to say)

Get over it, don't let him put you off, you'll meet worse and you'll meet better.

Yah his words were along the lines of what you said: "we've been looking for a light blue yamaha bike that has been riding erratically" there were two officers, the other one explained they'd made the mistake about identifying the bike, but the thing that made me feel awkward was when he mentioned the whole looking out for me in the future etc...
Not sure about the technicalities you're talking about but his "threat" was simply that if he ever see's me doing something even remotely wrong then he'd "send me a court notice without a second thought"

But yeah you're right about the registration thing although still, when some officer tells you you're bike isn't in your name, you feel something drop in your stomach!

Yah I guess you guys are right and again it's a possibility that I was being a bit meek and he saw that.

He was trying to sh!t you up so you behave on the next roundabout and ride like he's watching. He can't do it, so go to bed and don't give it another thought!

Was it a traffic unit or a local patrol? Chances are he was just trying to put the nerves into you, some people may disagree, but when otherwise law-abiding motorists are seen doing something silly/slightly erratic just a few choice words will usually make them think twice about doing so again.

Some people might take it wrongly, some might think we're all arrogant, ego-driven plonkers, but who is to say next time there wont be a bit of oil on the roundabout that has you off due to the higher speed?

As The Idle Biker says, as long as he wasn't arrogant/rude, move on, you've had you're first experience with the police and it's left a memory. I doubt he'll bother you again, he'll more than likely remember the cars he's had off for no insurance/drink drive or continual anti-social behaviour.
