Default Caliper Piston Extractor Tool - only £3.99

If your sick of the frustration of trying to get flushed Caliper Pistons out once they've seized in then this might be worth the money ! Will even pull the pistons from that rusty blob of a caliper thats been at the back of your garage for the last 10 years !

Works with either the caliper on or off the bike.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=220832020800

Unfortunately it only works for internally lipped brake caliper pistons with a 12mm opening, for the following models Honda NTV / Revere / VFR early to mid 90's.

If anybody knows of other bikes with a 12mm opening would be interested to add it to the list of models.

I'm sure if there are any machinists on this forum it would be pretty easy to make an adapter ring to fit over the 12mm anchor tip to allow the tool to be used with SV Suzuki brake caliper pistons.

28mm (diameter ali cylinder or whatever the internal diameter of SV piston is) x 10mm, with a 13mm hole drilled through the centre and a vertical split cut through one side of the ring to allow expansion. Also perhaps some knurling on the exterior of the ring to help it grip the sides of the piston.

Does the grease gun not leave grease in the internals of the caliper ?

This tool packs away nice and small - could easily be included in you "continental travel tool bag"

Could also be used as a pusher for slotting the calipers back in.

Just buy some bigger sized rawlbolts, works for extracting blind bearings too

if the piston is stuck in the caliper it will need cleaning out and new seals any case, used a grease gun several times never had a problem, and never needed to strip a caliper when away from the work shop, have seen all types of ways to remove pistons most only work on working and sticking pistons, when they are rusted in and need new pistons and seals a grease gun is the only way to push them out and useing all off the 10000 psi is like haveing a 10 ton jack pushing the pistons out

The Grease gun sounds very effective when nothing else will do. To me its a "wet" approach, splurging grease as well as brake fluid across your worktop. Whereas the extractor tool is a "dry" approach.

The thing is the tool isn't really for hardened mechanics, its just a cheap tool for the "at home" mechanic to hopefully take the bull ache out of servicing brake calipers when they seize. Which on the cheaply spec'd SV brake is a common problem.

I had 3 old NTV Revere front brake calipers, all sitting flush, rusted and unserviced for at least 5 years. One was off a completely salt corroded bike that had been sitting on Brighton sea front for 3 years. Within 30 minutes I'd pulled all 6 pistons out.

The tool made it so unbelievably easy that I just thought it was worth sharing with fellow bikers.

i found it easier to get a few rubber washers long bolt 2 nuts and a strip on ally with a hole in it.
cost nothing in the mountains of scrap i have hiding and it works a treat unless their jammed in good.
