Hey everyone, been on here a while reading loads of old posts but now decided to finally start posting.
I last had a bike about 5 years ago (GSXR6) and am hoping to get another bike sometime soon, plus my girlfriend wants a bike but has never been anything more than a pillion so is maybe doing her DAS soon. From what I've been reading an SV would be a good bike to share between us, mostly for commuting when the other needs the car to take kids out. Is there any other bikes you can think of to satisfy a novice and someone with a bit more experience? |

And you're asking this on an SV forum?

Sv is my first bike since passing my DAS and I've enjoyed it since day 1, still do, better on fuel than my mates bandit 6 and just as quick and fun on the twisty bits. Cheap to modify if you decide you want to and good on insurance.
They make a lot of sense but you should test ride a couple before buying. |

lol
lol again ![]() erm... the ER-6 is heavier, and for me was more on insurance. depending on the height of said wife an SV might need lowering, but thats easy enough to do. a test ride would be the best way of deciding, but the SVs are brilliant ![]() |

I own an SV (strangly enough) and the wife has an ER6-F. The ER has a more upright riding position so may be more comfortable. Powerwise they are pretty similar, but the SV has more torque so pulls harder. Like the others have said, it would be good if you could find a dealer who has both so you can compare. I f have the SV as the wife doesn't like sharing so has her own bike.

lets throw another one into the mix. how about a raptor? same engine as the sv but with better suspension and brakes as standard, you can also pick them up pretty cheep. one downside though is that they are made for dwarfs lol.

Similar class with the SV, how about a fazer?
I love my SV however the seating position is a bit leant over and V-Twins can be a bit bitey on the wrist if your missus is inexperienced. Comfort wise for the missus, (and what I was after till I saw the insurance cost for such a new rider) how about a CBR600F which my own missus has. Nice comfy bike with some oomph for youself. ![]() The 650 Raptor is indeed an SV in Italian clothing, however they are also as rare as hens teeth(nakid or V more so), and therefore not as cheap as one might expect. I personally wouldn't use one for commuting, it might melt in the rain(seeing as we get it so often), also spares aren't as easily to source, and are getting thinner on the ground. Air filters and usual consumables are the easy bit, but such things as clutch cables are PITA. If a V was found, be prepared to empty your bank account if the missus busts the indicator housing. If you need parts from Cagiva be prepared to be told you'll receive within ten days, when in fact they won't send it to you for at least twelvty weeks ![]() ![]() I wouldn't bother thinking about the 1000 if its to be shared with a novice rider, its more of an experienced ride.
