Default Starter problems

K my 2001 Curvy has just developed a starter problem and wondering if anybody has had any issues the same.

Went to shops tonight and came back out and bike wouldn't start , ended up resorting to bump start and went ith no probs.

Battery full , clutch switch is working , you get the clicking from starter solenoid but thats as far as it goes.

Anybody else had same issues before i go buying starter and solenoid ?

How old is your battery? Could it be on the way out?

The solenoid clicking means that its receiving current from the starter switch, but it doesn't mean that it's operating correctly, the solenoid contacts are not necessarily closing fully/at all.
Connect a meter on a 20V DC setting between the heavy wire connection on the starter motor, (positive lead), and a clean frame/engine earth or the negative terminal on the battery, (negative lead). Turn on the ignition, make sure the stop switch is closed, the engine is in neutral and the clutch lever is pulled back to the 'bar. Press the starter button, if the meter reads battery voltage, nominally 12V, then the solenoid is operating correctly but the starter motor isn't, if the meter reads zero then the solenoid is not operating correctly, if the meter briefly flicks and then returns to zero, (or at least very low voltage), then the solenoid is operating correctly but the starter motor is not or is jammed, which may be a fault with the starter clutch.

OK Update still the clicking from solenoid was getting dodgy reading on meter when checking it,( never got same reading twice or even close) with starter motor on bike and earthed put jump leads on spare battery and tried it straight to starter and started first time ,

Solenoid maybe?

Sounds like my problem that i had up until 2 months ago. Reg rec not charging the battery. If you charge the battery on the bike it will start, then after use it will click again. If you let the battery get too low (like mine only 12 months old) It also ends up dead. If you put your multimeter on the battery when charged and on the bike, start it and see what the volts drop to. Possibly the reg rec has took out the battery. I replaced my battery again and the reg rec and its been a dream ever since.
