I bought a curvy 99 sv just under a year ago and i only just passed my test... i have given it a few runs up and down the drive but when i went to start it a week ago it struggled so i had to bump it.
after that all seemed fine but I soon realised that when the headlights are on they drain the battery to the point it dies whilst riding, without lights it will keep going and going i have asked as few people but they don't have a clue so i taught i would try the experts... ![]() The battery and headlights were replaced when i bought it Any ideas please? |

My money would be a fault with the Regulator/Rectifier - a common problem it has appened to me.
Especially if the battery is new! If you are handy with a multimeter do a search on the forum for a guide how to diagnose faults with the Reg/Rec. i.e. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ectrical+fault |

Sounds like classic Reg / Rec but first check the reg/ rec plug contacts arent corroded.
Get some contact cleaner on them, btw WD40 or GT85 are NOT contact cleaners. |

Carb cleaner would do no harm but it's entirely separate from the issue u are having!
I would guess reg/rec too, if it's anything like when mine went there was a hole blown thru the back of it haha, someone on here is bound to have made a walkthru for changing it by now because it's such a common issue for curvies, there is a Honda part you can replace it with that's stronger than the curvies poor one too |

I don't suppose you know what part number that is by any chance?
will have to try and work out how to use my multimeter then get back on her with some results... see if anyone has some incite into what it could be. im hoping it is something as simple as reg/rec as a few people i have spoken to reckon it could be a coil |

A coil is also a simple fix but I can't see a coil being in any way related to ur issue, unless iv badly misread the problem above! A coil wud make the bike drop a cylinder and run like a bitch, but it wud still charge the battery n run headlights etc
