Question Won't start, just rapid electrical clicking noise?

It has been a month since last started up which was fine but now i have got it all ready for the mot and for the first time since i bought it in 2002, it wont start. The starter motor thinks about it for a second and then cuts to a rapid electrical clicking sound i have not heard before.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers,
Simon.

Sounds like a flat battery to me.

Agree with poster above, sounds like the battery is flat.

As above, don't be tempted to just " jump start " the bike because as soon as engine starts the alternator charges at maximum which could fry your rectifier/regulator. best put battery on charge,

This is very, very unlikely. They are shunt regulators, so they have the most current though them and highest heat dissipation when the battery is fully charged and there is no load (i.e. headlamps off etc).

What fry's them is if you jump it off a car, jump it off a bike as the ampage is different, last resort car but you have been warned.

Not so.

Jumping off a car is perfectly safe if i recall correctly? You just have to make sure the car engine is not running.

have been told you should'nt keep trying to start a motor when the battery is to low to start/turn the engine over as it can damage/burn out the stator where the brushs contact it
