Default Traffic Management M90

Seen this, while looking to see why the clackmannanshire bridge was closed,

Traffic management begins on M90 and A823(M) as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing project

20 September 2011
Average speed cameras and 40mph speed limit to be implemented between Halbeath and Forth Road Bridge and between Pitreavie Roundabout and the M90

From Friday 23 September the first of a number of traffic management measures will be installed on the M90/A90, A92, and A823(M) in Fife as work gets underway on the Fife ITS contract as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing (FRC).

Initially, restrictions on the carriageways will comprise the closure of the hardshoulders on the M90 motorway between Halbeath Junction and Admiralty Junction in both northbound and southbound directions. Various other traffic management measures will be in place in this area until summer 2012 to allow works to take place.

For reasons of safety, a mandatory 40mph speed limit will be applied throughout the extent of the traffic management scheme, which will be enforced by average speed cameras. These cameras will measure a vehicle’s average speed from point to point along a length of the route, using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to identify vehicles that exceed the 40mph limit.

Steven Brown, Roads and Infrastructure Manager for Transport Scotland’s FRC Employers Delivery Team, said:

“This traffic management is an essential part of minimising the FRC project's construction impact on journey times and public safety.

“These works are necessary for the installation of the Intelligent Transport System gantries that will be a vital part of the wider FRC scheme.

“The average speed cameras in use on this part of the project will help preserve the safety of the travelling public and contractors working on the site, as well as helping to smooth the flow of traffic through the scheme.”

The FRC project is currently on track to be delivered in 2016 and will replace the current Forth Road Bridge as the main crossing for cross-Forth traffic
Here's hoping its not another Edinburgh trams fiasco

If the system is the same as the one on the 13 mile stretch of A1 at Dishforth then they look at the front number plate, so motorcycles can proceed at a safe but possibly brisker pace.

40mph average speed cameras is a bit draconian especially for the initial phase. 50mph has been used on the A1 for aaaaages to good effect.

That having been said you still get the occasional peeps that fly through. Mindless idiots in my opinion. The speed limits are there for the safety of the workforce and the public.

i had a drive down to Edinburgh airport last night and OMG it was a long drive.

The sign say 40mph until July 2012.

It was dark and I couldn't make out any cameras so i took the cautious approach and stuck to 40mph but there were cars and lorries speeding past me.
