Looking for a couple of pointers & opinions from the masses please folks...
What'd be the quickest route from Greenock that encompasses the following places: Glasgow Airport Kingston Bridge Hein Gericke on Great Western Road (That bit I'm guessing is easy - M8 and off at Charing X?) From here... how can we hit Crianlarich, Killin & Callander before returning back towards the M74 and South for D&Galloway again? Is it a loop up alongside Loch Lomond, right at Crianlarich, across and down via Callander? Are those horrendous roadworks between Glasgow & Stirling (the ones that have been there and go on forever) still in place? Any tip offs and local knowledge would be awesome, so thanks in advance. Cheers JM |

Quickest route you say? You don't want to go sharp right just before Callander and do the Dukes Pass? How much of a hurry can you be in?
But seriously folks, if you did that and took the Carbeth road, through the Clyde Tunnel and along the M8 to the new M74 extension it would only add 20 minutes or so. You're right about the Charing Cross exit for Hein Gericke by the way. |

What about this route
Goes over the Erskine Bridge, up the A809 past Carbeth, along the left hand side of Loch Lomond to Crianlarich, through Killin to Aberfeldy, down through Crieff to Callander and onto the Dukes pass to Aberfoyle. From Aberfoyle down the A81 through Milngavie onto Great Western road and along to HG. Finally over the Kingston Bridge on to M77 then take the new motorway extension on to M74. NOTE I dont think google maps is showing the new extension yet! HTH

If it was me I'd go for this route but it all starts to add up when you've to get back down south again... I hate the A82 along the Loch Lomond lochside. Hope I'm not too late for this.

Thanks again all - it was actually for a Tag Hunt competition with our IAM group, i.e. take a photo of our bikes in as many places on a set list as possible (bonus points for certain spots, and things like train stations, airports & ferry terminals all scored well).
10am out - back by 6pm or disqualified... So me & mine tackled this route: Scotland's good & bad in 8 hours 386 miles all in by the time we got back (that route doesn't start or end at the correct spot), all in the name of fun - made even better by the fact we won the thing! Woo, and indeed, Hoo!! |
