Default New bike!!!

52 plate VFR800fi. It needs some TLC in both the mechanic and the wash sense. The back tyre wouldn't look out of place on a Car its that square. The LCD display is out but I have found a good guide and it looks very straight forward to fix, so fingers crossed its that easy. Its apparently done ~13k miles though im not certain if its that low since the last service in the book said 12800 4 years ago!! He said it has been in the shed a while so maybe he aint ridden it for 4 years?

Anyway, all in its a clean bike just not been used for a while so needs a fettle. Engine seems nice and free of issue and I love the gear driven cam noise! I think it might need throttle balancing and tickover set right, at the mo its high at 1500rpm and not quite smooth hence the balance thing, looks like a simple enough job so its something to try and fit in this weekend.

Handling seems decent though some suspension work would do it a favour I think. Brakes are surprisingly good, take more pull to slow and stop than my brembo's on the falco which isnt surprising but they seem adequate. The rear brake pedal needs some grease as it feels on the stiff side, no feel. The linked brakes are interesting but tbh I haven't really noticed them other than there isn't a large amount of dive when braking and I think this is due to the linked brakes.

I think I need to turn the clip ons a little to make them straighter as they are a tad uncomfortable at the moment. The gear selector needs lowering as its uncomfortably high for me.

Centre stand and a couple of other little bits need some painting, so will see about powder coating.

Its just had a new full stainless exhaust so thats good like, smells like a new bike because of it. Only thing im confused about is that there should be (im pretty sure anyway) a couple of lambda sensors in the exhaust but there arnt, not sure if these are supposed to be removed or what?

Erm, all in for the money I paid its looking good. Scottoiler I think might be a plan, see what options there are there.

Clocks sorted, LCD display now working. One of the copper tracks had corroded. Got 13111 miles showing. Not certain if it would go up with the display not working or what...

Balanced the throttle bodies as the manual says. Seems a little better now. Tickover set right.

So new tyres asap then just general fettle.

If lambda sensors are supposed to be present, wouldn't that make the running rough?

IIRC there were lambda sensors on the Fix but the replacement motad headers can be ordered with or without them. If these are not there, then they need to have done the o2 eliminater mod to compensate. Plenty of information out there on that.

The US or Australian ones seem the best, the UK one is peopled by VFR stereo-types it seems. I left there after some spectacularly childish behavior. Not too hot on helping out with advice either....

Or8 Dyzio.

Not bad all in. The VFR needs a new themostat Doh! Its warming the rads up from cold and taking almost 10 miles to get upto temp... Considering most other bikes I have owned take about 2-3miles to get to temp that aint quite right really huh.

Its an easy bike to ride and is fairly relaxed. I think I miss the CC's a bit low down as its VERY gutless under 3k rpm. Over than its nice and pulls pretty well. Handling is easy and predictable. Not as fun as the falco I dont think, but more comfortable and better on the wallet in the fuel department. Suppose its more sensible. ha ha

The falco I aint been on for a bit, im hoping I can get round to giving it some TLC then see what im goin to do with it.
