Default Conveyancing fees

Have you bought or sold a house recently? If so what did you pay for your conveyancing fees?

My solicitor has quoted £525 +VAT, plus outlays such as land registry searches, etc, and he expects the total to be around £850 +VAT

Just trying to figure out if this is competitive.

its a few years since I moved, but that sounds pretty competetive, especially as he actually does something for the money, more than the other parasites.
Ask ED, he'll know

Thanks everyone!

If the property was in England I wouldn't just be asking Ed about the price, I'd be asking Ed to do the work!

Hope Ed doesn't mind me re-spouting his advice but he told me £450+VAT , sometimes more dependant on the circumstance

I don't know if perhaps the Scottish system requires more work, or maybe just has a different going rate, which is why I posted this in SV Ecosse.

All posts welcome mate

All the others so far are England too, but I'll be buying a house in England too if it sells.
