Hi so I had a flat battery this morning so I firstly tried to bump start it, but didn't manage to get it going. I got my flat mate to jump start my bike with his car (didn't know there would be an issue)
The bike started and I went for a 20 minute ride to charge the battery. The next time I tried to start the bike the Dash lights would not come up, the head lights wouldn't come on, all that shows up is the two front lights next to the main head lights and the back brake light. So I checked all the fuses and found the 30 Amp main fuse over heated the plastic melted but the fuse doesn't seem to be blown, haven't measured it's ohms yet but it doesnt look blown. The question is where do I start? I've replaced the fuse and nothing has changed so I guess something has melted? CDI unit? Wiring Loom? Also my mechanic mate has shorted some wires to check that the bike will turn over and it does. The bike is a 2004 K4 SV650 Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Check the fuse holder itself first, if the fuse made poor contact with the terminals than it would get hot.
If there's no other problems and the fuse didn't fail there may not be any fault to find. Occams Razor - poorly interpreted maybe - but you get the idea I'm sure ![]()

I've checked the fuse holder and it looks ok. The fault is still there the LCD on the dash etc doesnt turn on.. Do you think it could be the rectifier/ regulator?

Doubtful, there may be a charging problem as well, but that wouldn't obviously account for the trouble you're having with the electrical failure.
When you say he shorted some wires, presumably he touched across the solenoid terminals - this will make the engine turn over but tells us nothing other than there's charge in the battery and the engine isn't seized - it's not a useful test of the electrical system. You say the two front side lights are on and the brake light, are you sure it's the brake light? Sounds more as if it's the rear light - this means the ignition switch may be set to 'P' for parking lights. Is the ignition switch working properly?
