Default Speed limiting a childrens electric quad?

He all.
My in-laws have got our daughter a 24v quad for Christmas. It's in great condition but secondhand so I don't know who has made it/where it came from. The speed is controlled by a twist grip and it has front and rear disc brakes (it's a proper steel framed quad not a plastic one) but as she is quite young still I'd like to fit some sort of speed limiting device. I have looked at physically restricting the degree of twist on the throttle but it loos like it would be a bit of a bodge. Is there some sort of in-line control device I can add to limit the top speed? Either a variable one or permanent one that could be removed at a later date?
Cheers.

Yep you can fit a potentionometer (sp), this is basically a dial that reduces current so you'd fit it between the twist grip and motor (i presume it will have a relay).

The twist grip is basically the same thing im guessing so that may even be adjustable if you dig into the control circuits.

If it has a dc control card (machines i used to build and repair all had them) then the gain can be adjusted on the card by means of a screwdriver.

When you get it, open it up and take a pic of the gubbins, i might be able to see what can be adjusted, it will have some some kind of limiter in it somewhere.

Cheers for that. I have had a good look at the control box but cant see a way in to it, or any adjustment from the outside. The in-line route is the way to go. Could you suggest where I could get a control unit from? I had a look at the Maplin site earlier but couldn't see anything that matched my needs.

If it is anything like a mobility scooter just put another throttle potentiometer inline with existing one.

Bugger, sent it back! The batteries were shot and I didn't fancy trying to push it home with a pinned ankle

Aren't you meant to charge the batteries or are they not holding a charge? I`ve got a plastic 12v one with 2 stage throttle and is really slow so I dont have to worry too much with my 4 yr.old boy.

The batteries were knackered on the mobility scooter.... it's a long story.
This quad is fairly quick, has chunky tyres, front and rear suspension with preload, adjustable tracking, twin front discs and single rear, adjustable rear axle to keep the chain tensioned. The only thing it hasn't got is a limiter for new/young riders.
