Default Bike knocked over again!

Woke up this morning...looked out the front window, and my heart dropped, no bike to be seen. 'Fortunately', it hadn't been stolen, just knocked over (again).

I went out to see if I could lift it on my own, but it had fallen next to my neighbours wall with the bars twisted round, and there was no way I could lift it on my own.

So I thought I'd wait until there were more people around. Then a fella on a SV1000 stopped by and gave me a hand to pick it up (thanks Mark). I did, of course, do my duty and mention this forum to him

Of course, he said, "Your rear break peg is snapped off"...er....no, that's been snapped off for a while. Looking on the bright side, maybe it's a good job I hadn't fixed that and the front right indicator, or they'd need doing again

The only issue I can see at the moment is that the throttle is sticking again, so I need to fiddle with the bar end see if I can sort that out. Oh well, looking on the bright side at least it's gone over on the 'usual' side...so from the left it looks quite immaculate

Oh dear, sorry to hear that Jo. Should you need any help just ask.

Excuse my ignorance here but who is knocking it over, is it car drivers as they try and park? Do they just not see it? If that's the case I'd be inclined to buy some high viz/reflective material and drape it in that.

Last time it was a lorry reversing (the bike is on the pavement, not even in the road). This time...who knows. I can't see any impact point, so it may have been nudged by a car, or deliberately pushed over by someone walking past.

Maybe it would be worth investing in a disclock alarm. Then you can get insurance details of the next numpty who knocks it over and get a claim in.

Sorry to hear about it Jo, but as you said, there was a silver lining of being the usual side.

Anyhow, after thinking there wasn't any damage, sorting out the bar end, and it eventually starting, I set of for an overtime shift at work. I only got a mile down the road when I noticed the front brake fluid reservoir was wobbling alarmingly. The bit of plastic that fits into the bracket is cracked all the way across, and hanging on for dear life. I turned round and rode very slowly back home.

Any idea if this can be fixed with a bit of superglue, or is it a case of getting a new one (and draining the brakes to fit it)?

If it's a broken reservoir, I wouldn't risk glueing it. A replacement shouldn't be too much. You would only need to drain a little fluid to replace the reservoir but you could kill two birds and bleed the whole system with £10 of new fluid.

He he, you haven't met Jo yet have you?

As long as the actual reservoir isn't cracked so fluid might leak out, secure it as best you can with glue, cable ties or tape. As long as the lid's on tightly, doesn't leak and the reservoir stays fairly upright it'll be fine. I'm sure someone would swap it over for you at Soho if you're going on Friday. I'm not there unfortunately. You'll need a little bit of fluid to replace what's lost. I'd offer to pop by but I'll busy tomorrow and Friday.
