Wink Tidy Tail.

I always wanted a smaller tail section... Now that I am converting the bike for track only duty, I was looking for a SBK race tail... And I found this:

The SV Tail section is 16-1/2" inches wide*, 32-1/2" inches long**, and 12" inches tall***...

This SBK Tail section is 12-1/2" inches wide*, 22" inches long**, and 6" inches tall***...

* At widest section, back of seat.
** From fuel tank to tip.
*** From top of hump straight down.

Of course it is going to get a new custom sub frame... If I mount it to where the stock seat goes, it makes the tail to tire gap look huge...

Right now, I am considering trimming the Titanium can, so the end cap is at a straight line from the tail end, to the edge of the tire...

Maybe in the future, I may look into a CBR600RR under tail slip on with custom pipe to it... This may help fill out the gap. Just an idea.

What do you guys think?

Luis

It looks like there'd be a decent weight saving with the new tail.

It's a track bike. Who cares what it looks like?

(though, if looks are important to you, I prefer the first pic)

Is number 2 in it's final position? Looks like it's floating. If it was lower and covered the frame it could look sweet. I like number one, but remove the coat hook

Number 1 looks the mutts nutts. Number 2 looks like it belongs on a minimoto. Doesn't suit the bike at all.

The idea is weight savings...

I want to get rid of the heavy seat, and get a 2. lbs. or lighter sub frame... A super bike tail, with just a foam pad...

Picture #2 is an approximate position to match the seat height and angle... It can probably go 1 to 1-1/2 inches down and maybe a 1 inch back to get the same room as the OEM seat...

Finishing touch on the Mini SBK tail, I was planning on extending it to reach the fuel tank an the upper mount on the sub frame... And wrapping it with Carbon Fiber...

To cover the under side, I was thinking of a hinge at the lower front with a Carbon Fiber door that would provide access to the ECU, Power Commander and the rest of the electric components... The 1.2 lbs battery would be relocated to the right side of the #1 cylinder...

I also have a SV1000 rear wheel hugger to cover the 180/55 rear tire, Also Carbon Fiber... And a front fender in Carbon Fiber...

The list never ends... Luis

PS:

New Sub Frame 2 lbs
Tidi SBK with Foam 1lbs 10 oz
New Under Tail 1 lbs

Total 4 lbs 10 oz

Sub Frame 5 lbs 7 oz
Under Tail 1 lbs 6 oz
Fiber Glass Tail 2 lbs 7 oz
Seat 2 lbs 7 oz

Total 11 lbs 11 oz

Savings 7 lbs 1 oz

The Coat Hook... I was thinking... What hook?

That, is the mount for the GoPro HD Camera... I have 9 mount points for it on my bike...

Thanks!!!

It does belong to a Mini... It looks a lot like a 06-07 GSXR600 but much smaller... ...Here is a different angle.

The other tail I was thinking about is RSV4 SBK tail... But there are pricey and not particularly light!!!

While thinking on the new sub frame construction... The idea of an adjustable sub frame came up...

The KTM RC8 has this feature, the seat can be moved 3/8 inch up, or down from stock... Some people seem to like this feature...

I could easily move the seat 3/4 inch up, or down from stock... And, I could change the seat angle 10 to 15 degrees... I had already changed the seat angle about 5 degrees to keep from sliding back under full throttle...

This would ad 8oz to my estimated 2 lbs design... But I think it is worth it!!!
