Default How to ruin one's birthday...

Get a joint present from husband a best friend: A Kindle.

With 4 hours commuting a day it would seem a sensible present as I read around 8 books a month.

But I don't want it. I like real books. I know they are heavy and impractical but I have a big handbag.

And I never buy books from Amazon. There are 3 charity shops near work I buy from there and then give them back afterwards to re-sell. It benefits the local hospices and Oxfam, not Amazon.

So now I've told Mr LPH I don't like my present and can he get a refund so he's grumpy, and he has to speak to my mate to break the news to her too.

To be fair, I slag off the Kindle and all e-book readers regularly so I'm surprised he got me one.

I was lucky, my sister asked me which tripod I'd like for Christmas.

Hope you didn't let it spoil the rest of your birthday,

K.

Ungrateful so and so.

He tried.

That's the best a bloke can do.

At least it's not a bunch of flowers from the local Texaco!

There is a type?

So this Kindle device stores thousands of books and means that you can always rely on having something to read where ever you are, providing the batteries are not flat... Where as a book can be as thick or thin as you like, gives you a reason to buy nice book marks, makes you visit a charity shop and never runs out of power. Sorry, I think I am with you. Putting aside my Luddite nature for a moment, the book is more than just a selection of folded paper. You buy someone a book and it is a gift that gives again and again. I have books here that are tattered and almost at the point of not being readable anymore, but written in the jacket will be a word of love from an old friend or relative. Books are special, they fill shelves and fill our minds.

Just to warn you though, next Birthday you are getting socks!

At least it's something he can get a refund on.

Got to say I agree. Can't beat a proper book that you can keep forever. An ebook doesn't age and get new creases every time you re-read it.

I can sort of sympathise with the wanting a proper book because I like the physical page turning and I like to be able to see the cover of what I'm reading. But....

Try the Kindle out, or if it's already gone back, borrow one off a friend - you will be pleasantly surprised.
