How do you get a notification when someone posts a tweet?

The twitter app doesn't give any even though they are turned on. Just tried Boxcar but it still says No messages yet. Even though there are new ones on twitter. It shouldn't be this complicated

Are the notifications turned on in the notification center (in settings) as well as the app?
(I don't use twitter so I may be barking up the wrong tree)

Yeh apparently twitter notifications never work. That's why I got Boxcar but it doesn't seem very reliable either. It has alerted me a couple of times but missed a lot of tweets in between

I get a popup for every mention, RT or direct message. That's just with the standard twitter app. Guessing somethings wrong - you shouldn't have to get a different app. Have you tried the setting on the iPhone aswell as in the app?
