Since I bought my SV the balls of my thumbs really start to hurt after a few miles. It's worse on stop-start journeys but I can't seem to do anything about it.
Couple of thoughts I've not ruled out are my gloves perhaps, although they were fine on my YBR and the bike I learnt on. Or could be I've got heated grips and the extra size might be having an effect. Any thoughts? |

You're probably gripping the bars too tightly mate. I can't see any other reason really. Is it your first bike? If so, you just need to learn to grip with your knees more, take some of the weight off your arms and hands, and don't feel like you have to grip the bars tightly.
Edit: Ahh yeah, forgot to mention. Yeah, if your gloves are new, you might be fighting them a bit. Maybe borrow a friends pair to test the theory?

Never experienced it myself. Are they aching inside or rubbing outside?

Its a common thing, which is why folk get comfort kits fitted, especially the curvies, as the ergonomics aren't the best.

I get this constantly but I suffer from tendonitis so mine is caused by that.

Thanks all...
It's an ache, a bit like cramp The gloves are six months old so don't think it's that, but I've got a winter pair I've not really used with this bike so I'll still give them a go. What's a comfort kit?! I've also not heard about gripping with my knees, is that hold on tighter around the fuel tank? Thanks again. |

I did wonder if it was tendinitis but I only get it on the bike so hopefully not

A comfort kit is high bars like a naked bike, fitted to a faired model which would normally have clip ons
