What's with racer's sticking their left leg out when braking? Some look like they put it on the floor but I can't seem to understand why. Races are pretty short and I can't see it is just stretching.

I'm still waiting for a rider to go into another bikers leg when flapping like that! I'd like to see them argue as to who was to blame for the contact.

I don't think it would matter in a race, but on the road the police might argue that the rider with their leg out is not in complete control with a foot off the peg. But then again why would you go up the inside of another rider whilst braking? If they were overtaking and on the brakes with their leg out then they would be blame IMO.

It's what dirt bikers have done for years, I've seen a certain forummer stamp his bike back up from a lowside mid corner using the leg out technique - so it is good for something!

They only have their legout when going into the corner but at the apex the leg is folded back in and knee is down.
Two theories either it causes drag and helps pull the bike into the corner or the more cynical, it stops someone coming down the inside into the corner and outbraking you ( I believe the 2nd more than the first) Did a nice save offroading today by stamping down the foot, felt like I had lost the front and the back while cranked over, instinct took over at that point, the guys following said it was impressive, purely luck than any type of talent. |

They are all just copying Rossi, I've noticed more riders doing it now for some reason, even reading all the speculation, I'm not convinced how effective it is and what effect it would have on lap times if they didn't do it.

I'm sure I've heard Neil Spalding saying that it helps move a bit of weight towards the rear while heavy braking.
