No idea why it's red, but all the oils I've bought for the last 3 changes have been a different shade of red. Think of it as putting blood into your creature. You don't want to put brown **** in there, do you?

The oil you bought is a mineral oil (it says in the desciption), not a semi-syth that most people plump for. Now wether that means it's suitable or not, I'm not sure, but I'm sure someone will know.

F****** in the shop said it was semi-syth thats why i got it, still haven't started it yet, thought i run it by the experts first. i have no problem dropping it out again,€28 is nothing over a cease engine, but if its no harm/ or better i 'll run with it, dont want to be wasting oil and money, tks for your relpy

Don't panic, if you have a look in the specification table HERE it conforms to both the API SG and JASO MA standard which Sid Squid specifies in his Oil thread. The only issue is the fact it's a mineral rather than a semi, he quotes "most, (not all), would choose semi synthetic".

Wouldn't worry about the red colour- 2 stroke oils have been red for years and it seems to be more common in other oils too now. Not entirely sure why they do it in sump systems as the colour doesn't last long.

As previous post says you have mineral oil for air cooled and probably really want semi synth for liquid cooled. Air cooled engines run hotter i think so you'd imagine it should cope but i think there are other differences such as detergents and oil composition that would make it wise to expend the effort/dosh getting the recommended oil. Probably not what you want to hear - someone else may know better though...

I've bought at least 3 different brands, claiming to be either part synthetic or fully synthetic, either castrol or other bike specific brands, and they have all been red. Mineral or not, whatever that means, they are correct for your bike dude. Don't worry. I've had my SV for 2 years and done thousands of miles on this stuff without any issues. It's blood for your bike!!

Good brand, part synthetic, correct viscosity, with 4 stroke motorbike written on the bottle. How much closer can you get?
