Unhappy SV 650 help

Hey guys! im new to the fourm and new to the sv 650 community. So i would like to say please welcome me into your comunity as i have a few things i need help with.

OK so now down to the nitty gritty. i bought a 2005 sv 650s with 10k for a steal down in miami. its in a bit rough condition and i will post pics if it could help. it runs and drives preety good except for a few things. my first problem is that when in idle it likes to fluxuate from 1500 to 3000 in burst of 3 seconds sometimes it does it sometimes it dosent do it as much. Idk why it does it or how to fix it. and my second problem is that when i run it once the bike heats up i smell a burning rubber smell. idk if this is to many charecters, but also there is a hose that hooks up to a cooler with a fan. idk why but the fan never spins. knowing stuff from a car the fan cools the radiator and if it over heats your done. please help if you know anything that could help me.

Hi and welcome,

I'm not to sure about the idling but im sure someone wit more technical know how will be along soon to answer your question. Regarding the fan on the radiator, i believe there is a few threads on here that tell you how you can test the fan and temp sensor to make sure they are both working. Worth a search. Have you checked the connections in the fan and sensor to make sure they are ok?

The fan only comes on if and when the engine temp reaches a pre set level - it's thermostatically controlled. best way to test it it actually comes on is probably to have the engine running whilst the bike is parked/on the side stand.

You might get more responses it this was in the technical/problems section...perhaps a mod could move this?

Fan - check the fuse or connections to the fan, the fan should cut in around 104oc (not sure what that is in farenheight sorry).

Idle - when were the throttle bodies last balanced?. If they are a long way out this can cause rough idle. Its part of the 7500m & 14500m service schedule.
