Kenko Extension tubes

Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with these macro extension tubes? I'm looking to take some indoor macro shots for when Im bored and the weather outside is the normal uninspiring winter norm.

I'm very much a beginner when it comes to photography but I do enjoy taking pictures and setting up some shots. I'm only using a d3100 so I'm not looking for uber quality.

1) Most tubes have no electronic connection between the lens and the camera. So you'll be shooting completely manual. That is manual focussing, manual exposure and plenty of frustration.

2) If your lens doesn't have an aperture ring (G) you might need to pick up an older lens with an aperture ring.

3) You're probably going to want the camera on a tripod

4) The shooting procedure is:

a) open up the aperture ring
b) focus
c) close down the aperture
d) try to guess what's in focus
e) start the self timer (vibration is bad)
f) wait
g) look at the exposure, adjust the shutter speed go back to step e)
h) go back to step a) because it's not quite in focus
i) go back to step a) because you nudged the tripod/table and the subject moved a couple of mm

One more thought. If you're looking for interesting subjects a good place to start is your local florist.

Dont worry I would be getting the ones with AF connectors built in.

I also have an old heavy but robust tripod.
