Hi all,
Anyone know of an online route planner that will allow you to upload the route created to a satnav particularly a garmin or tom tom? I know of twistyride but it's not very good. |

http://www.tyre.tk/
Your welcome ![]() PS: it says TomTom all over the website, but it works exactly the same with Garmin, or indeed any sat nav that will read one of a range of waypoint file formats. Last edited by -Ralph-; 16-02-12 at 08:53 AM. |

How do you actually download thes onto your Tomtom?
I have an older car tomtom, one of the first ones, is it still possible?

I would imagine you place the file created in one of the root folders of the satnav?

Tyre will produce an itinerary file which can be used as waypoints on a Tomtom, though not very well. There's also no guarantee that the route between itinerary entries as calculated by Google Maps will match that generated by the Tomtom. And you may find you have to stop and manually nudge the itinerary on to the next stop rather than the savnav doing it for you.
If you have a Garmin, you don't need a third-party tool - the device comes with Mapsource which uses the same routing engine as the device itself so you can be pretty certain the resulting route will match. Pre-planning routes with waypoints is really the main (only) strength of Garmin over Tomtom.

Which particular TomTom or Garmin do you have in mind, I'm sure different models will accept different things.
I have a Garmin 550 which came with route planner software that I can then sync to the satnav, maybe that software can be downloaded and used with other garmin models?

Garmin 275T I think
Garmin say: MapSource is a valuable tool if you have a device that doesn't accept data cards or that has a small built-in memory. MapSource is only available with our DVD/CD map products. My Garmin has an SD slot, so do I need to use something else? Last edited by SUPERSTARDJ01; 16-02-12 at 01:50 PM. |
