I always loved the old R1's and probable will have one at some point. I'm fresh rider and I have my sv only for few months. I've hardly put any miles on it due to lack of time and I don't have any intentions of buying R1 any time soon. But was a bit bored today and decided to have a look how many thousands of pounds it would of cost me to insure R1 now. So I'm 25, license less than a year, driven a car for 7y and 4y NCB on it.
~£300 for fully comp for sv £520-£700 fully comp for 99' R1 ![]() I was expecting at least another number in front of it cos before I bought sv I was looking at some ss600 and insurance was like £400-600 so I opted for sv. Can someone explain? Is it normal? |

When I turn 21 I'll have 4y NCB so it better come back cheaper than £750 if I haven't had one by then, which is looking unlikely as I'll determin if I want to keep the SV after this summer. Age is a massive thing on insurance, after 2 years of riding, my insurance paper work says in the notes section. "Young & Inexperianced rider" yet my mate who has only just got a bike who is 21, no NCB, same insurer, 4 doors away & his says nothing. |

I'm just under 20, will have had my licence for 2 years in July and my SV will cost like £700 FC ![]() Just put my details in as if I had just turned 20 (my actual birthday is mid March) and it's £200 cheaper FC, and £45 cheaper for TPFT, which I insure my bike as as it's only a curvy and not worth much. I cannot imagine how bad it will be by the time my boys (11 and 12 years old) get to need insurance, the prices are going up so fast, and the real thing is with bikes that you do not tend to damage other people's property the way you do with a car, the only thing you damage is yourself and your bike. They just load it because they can.

As I'm commuting down the motorway next year daily, think I'll pay the extra £200 and have a decent engine which is better equipped for decent mileage! |
