Hi,
If you've got a carby for racing and a injection for the road, would it be possible to do a straight cam swap between them? I've heard about fitting injection inlet cams to a carby and then using the carby inlet cam as the exhaust, but not a straight swap between the different bikes. Is it possible to fit carby cams in an injection, I'm not interested in losing a few HP as it's just for commuting. I'm hoping to sit the bikes side-by-side in the garage and just do a direct swap over......and get some benefit out of the carby!! If it is possible are the benefits noticeable in the carby? Help and advice much appreciated. Thanks, Sam |

Yes, you can do both.
Bigger benefit to the Carby than the Injection, but both gain

Thanks for the quick response....but I'm curious...
How can the injection benefit from doing this? I was hoping for a performance increase in the carby, but a loss of power in the injection. How can both gain? Thanks Sam |

You're best off finding a cheap set of Curvy cams on eBay as they don't hold as much value as Pointy cams for some reason... |

As I understand it they have slightly different timing, ie they open and close the valves slightly differently. The Pointy with slightly more as standard, but using them together you get even more.
Basically you're just making both engines the same, but as the Pointy is slightly more powerful the change isn't as big. |

You should definitely buy a set of intake carby cams because you will need 4 of those, 2 for each bike. It will only set you back around £50. I think you use exhaust cams in the exhaust side of the pointy engine. But im not sure on that.
I can vouch for that link to the BARF forum curvy camswap guide. Its spot on, i followed to to the letter and it went smoothly. |
