Eyup folks, after buying the TL I noticed the plastics were in a bit of a state so I started rubbing them down and filling holes and cracks etc, i did start painting it in ford electric orange but its a bugger to get a good finish so decided to scrap that idea because every little mark shows straight through the paint (i know its supposed to be pretty much spot on but painting it in the barn / garage at my brothers wasnt very good with all the dust and crap up in the rafters) so ive decided to go with a black paint jobby and relentless sticker kit. Basically wondering when it comes to the lacquer, how petrol proof is normal lacquer? or is it a case of you must use the petrol proof stuff for the top coat indeffinately? and can you use normal lacquer to build up a few coats and then just do a layer of the petrol proof stuff after?
Also anyone know of a good decal set? ive seen THIS on ebay and wondered if anyone had any comments on it. Cheers, Danny |

you want to use a 2 pack clear coat that will get you best results and last the longest, i've used the petrol proof crap halfrauds sell isn't much cop. Its probably tinkle proof but it would probably melt if you spilt alot on it

2K has hardener which contains isocyanate, which is extremely toxic if breathed in

Yeh, my uncle used to do a bit of spraying and used to use cellulose paint, he once used 2pack not thinking anything of it, with no breathing aperatus on and said it was a bit difficult to breathe for a couple days

You can get 2pk in rattle cans but it is nasty stuff and you need decent filters for your mask.

Lacquer is not petrol proof, ever.
I used engine enamel (for cars) in rattle cans on some off road bikes in the past and it worked a treat. Just avoid spilling any petrol on it for the first couple of weeks.

Well it doesnt have to be super petrol resistant but obviously just splash proof, didnt know how quick normal lacquer would fail if its splashed with petrol. Ill probably have a look at some of the everyday petrol proof lacquer and see how we go. would it be best to put a final coat of petrol resistant lacquer over all of the bike or just say the tank?

If you do use 2 pack make sure you use an air feed mask .
