After a few searches i considered posting this up that we we can gather a few stats on those people who have adjusted their machines suspension that way we can have a database for everyone to check. So if they want to change it then we can see an average if possible to try out.
If we should be adding anything else in to the stats give me a shout & i'll update this topic. I considered height & kit weight Model of SV: Version: Your weight: Your settings (factory setting is 3 on both) Front suspension position: Rear suspension preload:

Model of SV: Suzuki Sv650s 2011
Milage: 2450 Version: Faired(is that what u mean???) Your weight: 13stone 3/185lb Front suspension position as standard setup: Max preload Rear suspension preload: 4 out of 7 Opinion: Very soft, dives badly under braking. What you've done to improve stock suspension: fit emulators and change oil to 15wt. Want to do next: Fit 0.85kg linear springs. Last edited by Urbanfireblade; 21-03-12 at 10:34 AM. |

Model of SV: Suzuki Sv650s 1999
Milage: 30,000 Version: Curvy Your weight: 13stone Front suspension position as standard setup: No preload adjusters (see impvements). Rear suspension preload: Hagon shock about midway Opinion: Firm, a bit harsh on poor surfaces, way better than soft standard setup though. What you've done to improve stock suspension: Change oil to 15wt and preload achieved by packing 15mm with washes below fork caps. Want to do next: Emulators on the way ![]() Maybe in the future: Fit 0.85kg linear springs and Nitron shock. Last edited by Dipper; 21-03-12 at 11:41 AM. |

Model; '99 SV650S
Mileage; 19,000 Version; Curvy Weight; 13st 4lb Front susp; stock. Rear; stock, max pre-load. Tyres; Mich. Pilot Road new on rear and worn Avon on front. Opinion; all a bit vague at the mo. Next; refurb'd forks bought from SVMonkey, some emulators coming from Dipper and a matched pair of Pilot Road 3's before Snetterton track-day. Then maybe a Hagon rear shock if I hav'nt binned it. |

this idea in principle sound good but there are far to many factors to take into account.
preload is just that preload it determines the ride hight and nothing more. the stock dampening on the SV is crap and since dampening controls the rate at which the spring compresses/decompresses then your pizzing against the wind trying to improve the 'handling' of the bike. add to this the weakness of the stock springs in the first place and matters just get worse. by all means set the sag (each rider will be different) but that's all you can do to the stock suspension on the sv. |

Its just a bit of fun sharing 'whats yours like?' info, and maybe adding something which you feel made an improvement. Everybody's gotta start somewhere.

When I had a stock SV preload was wound on max both ends and was still bottoming out.
Ungraded to zx6r rear shock £30 Emulators in front forks with .90 springs and 15W oil. Loads better although .90 springs were too hard. More suited to a 17st rider.

Model; '02 SV650S
Mileage; 31.5K Version; Curvy Weight; 8.5st Front susp; 0.85 linear with Silkolene Pro RSF 15w oil, 3 rings preload. Rear; stock, 3 rings pre-load. Opinion: Front is substantially better than stock, and have emulators coming. Brake dive is very much acceptable now I think, although I haven't really pushed it (new tyres and 6+ months off bike). Still a tad harsh on sharp bumps but hoping emu's will help. Bike still doesnt squat for **** when I get on it. Will try Min Preload on both and see how it goes...Am hoping to get time to properly set up sag this weekend. |
