Default HOC site malware.

Received this email today from Honda Owners Club.

Quote:
As many of you may be aware fron Facebook, Twitter and the HOC Forum, the HOC site appears to have been hacked.

This, I believe, has taken the form of malware which has been insinuated into our server.

I am working with 1&1 to resolve and destroy the problem.

This malware hijacks legitimate links on search engines.

For example, if you search for 'Honda Owners Club' in Google (or Yahoo) it will bring up our site in the top 5.

Unfortunately if you then click on that link it doesn't go to our site!

It will take you to a web page, based in Russia, that can then come up with a warning message to the effect that your computer is infected and they can repair it by clicking on a link.

DO NOT CLICK ON THAT LINK!

If you do it will download a virus that effectively freezes your machine until you pay them.

www.hoc.org.uk is still working normally and if you type in the web address you will go straight to it.

It is only links from third parties (search engines) that get hijacked.

Unfortunately this means that innocent potential members can fall fowl of this - which is a major problem and why I'm working very hard to get it resolved as quickly as possible.

Please pass this on to your members as quickly as you can and keep your own anti-virus and firewall software up-to-date.

Mods thought this was the best place for this thread as its bike related not chat, but feel free to shift it if you wish.
