Default Misfiring Curvy

Hi all

Fit my restrictor washers last night and the bike was noticeably unhappy today. When fuel is in demand the bike struggles and gets very jerky, accompanied by the fuel light periodically coming on and the speedo/revmeter going all over the place. Also the odometer seems to reset itself, as if you'd just turned the ignition on (loading screen). I also got this problem very slightly before i put the restrictors in but i just assumed I didnt have the choke on for long enough as it would sort itself out when the engine warmed up.

Get a slight whiff of petrol aswell sometimes bit not sure if this is abnormal or not.

Cheers

If the rev counter is flicking it suggests a poor connection on the ignition coil (where it gets its signal), sounds like you may have dislodged the terminal. This would give erratic misfires.

Also wasnt 100% sure that i fit the airbox perfectly when putting it back on, could this cause the problem? Seems unlikely somehow?

Cheers for the reply. Was thinking along the lines of something electrical actually as I noticed that the odemeter sort of resets when it occurs. E.g. the screen that comes up when you turn the ignition on it displayed.

Sorry I'm a bit of a spastic when it comes to bike engines (I'm ok with car engines i swear!)... is there only one ignition coil therefore it should be easy to trace back?

2 coils, one each cylinder, pretty sure the rev counter comes off the front one (?). Follow the HT plug lead back and you'll find it. Look at both while you're in there anyway, make sure it's all clean and electrical connections are sound.

If as you say the odometer is also playing up then there's probably more to it. The curvey has a couple of well known wiring chafing points to check, any of them can cause intermittent misfires and blowing fuses etc.

Check carefully behind both the bolts holding the riders seat on, remove the black triangles first to get to them. The wiring sits right behind where the seat bolts are.
Under the pillion seat, look in the cubby area towards the rear on the left side of the bike (i.e. the chain side). The wiring bends round a frame bracket and can wear through.
The other area is generally around the headstock where the harness flexes as you turn the bars, just have a close inspection.

All electricals seem to be ok.. haven't checked HT terminal yet specifically, still trying to locate it haha. Gonna have dinenr and then have another look. Could the speedo being eratic be caused by the ignition coil aswell?

Right well I found the HT coils and terminals and there doesn't seem to be anything visually wrong

Another thing is that it's not the easiest thing to start from scratch. E.g. Have to give the throttle a blip to get it going, but again I don't know how normal/abnormal this is! At idle it seems to be fine, revs sit at just over 1k and theres no movement of the needle really.

Im stuck!

You haven't pinched the fuel pipe or forgotten to connect the vacuum hose to the petrol tap?
