I was wondering if you need pillion passenger cover on your insurance to actually carry pillions. When filling out your insurance online it asks whether you want pillion cover or not.
Would it be illegal to carry a passenger if its not covered? |

I would hazard a guess that if you say you don't want to carry a pillion and sign the forms, you have made a contract with them that states just that. To carry some one will then invalidate your contract with them and they will not pay out if you have an accident.
![]() I always make sure that I am covered to carry pillions so that I can pick up hot girls in town and then dump them in the countryside miles from home! Well, you have to have a hobby! ![]() |

When I was getting quotes it was cheaper to insure without pillion cover. It made sense as I have only just past my test, and I'm in no rush to carry a passenger until I feel my skills are good enough.
I would imagine the difference in insurance costs between pillion cover and rider only will decrease, the longer you have been riding. |

I never found any difference.
I doubt that any difference would ever be found in event of a crash except maybe your pillion could sue you for damage personally if they got injured and you were at fault. If a pillion of mine tried that the injuries from crash would be least of their problems..

I think it's more that an inexperienced rider is more likely drop the bike or lose control. Maybe anyway.
I worked for an insurance company many moons ago, and they go on pure statistics. For example; my car insurance would be £15 per year MORE if I would have said I'd keep it in the garage rather than the drive lol. |
