Default Refused MOT with legally marked exhaust.

yesterday I booked my MOT for CBR600rr, with after market exhaust. The exhaust had its baffles in, the exhaust also marked (road legal). yet i was refused for my MOT because they deemed it too loud.

its only a slip on exhaust so the down pipes are original and havent had any of the honey comb mesh taken out, and the ends are baffled.

so after this I was worried about not getting MOT with out putting old exhaust back on which is a hassle. I then decided to go to another MOT place who checked exhaust and said he would MOT it. he said "its got baffles, its stamped, its loud but there are much louder" so booked MOT for 5pm today.

after taking time off to be refused an MOT and have my time wasted and the fuel to get to MOT place and back. not happy so don't use a place called

read this
Make your own mind up
PS
its a fail not a refuseal

Information Method of Inspection Reason for Rejection 2. With the engine running assess the effectiveness of the silencer(s) in reducing as far as is reasonable the noise emitted. 3. Check the silencer(s) on all machines for any unacceptable markings. 2. A silencer that is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition.

My friend got his passed recently with an unbaffled racefit but they did say it was very illegal but passed it anyway.

Sorry mate but i had my 600rr checked by them with a two brothers exhaust and he passed it when the police gave me a rectifier. No exhaust markings not even an e mark and is bloody loud.

Also he saved you money by not doing the test then failing you. He can seem a bit cocky but he does my bikes and scooter and never had problem.

Had mine done yesterday with a non baffled, cut down (shortened) Akro exhaust and also a small number plate.

When I picked it up, the guy simply said, 'when the bike came in it had a baffled exhaust and a standard plate' then winked. TOP GUY!

i have noticed there are MOT testers who like bikes and have a genuine passion for bikes and do things like that. wish i could find one, yet there are others who aren't happy and like to swing their weight.

i just don't like having my time wasted by someone being picky, as i am sure no one else does.

My tester views a loud can as an essential safety feature. He is very hot on things he thinks unsafe. But a loud can isn't going to kill you.

Instead of some daft rule stating ambiguous terms like "as far as is reasonable" they should provide guidance that can be measured, just as with ACU regs at a track. Its then simple, its either too loud or not.

The problem here is the lack of clarity.

Testers discretion I'd be sad.to see go.
Don't go back again.. well only once to show the pass.
