Default Riding to MOT test without current MOT, what's the law?

After a year of no bike I decided to get another SV but it's pointy rather than having those sweet curves. Anyway the bike has no MOT and is sorn.

I have done some digging and have found that I CAN ride the bike but only if I'm insured to do so (obviously) and I am taking the bike directly to a pre booked MOT.

That's fine but the only time I can collect the bike is a Sunday. So I would be riding it home, leaving it in a garage over night and going for a pre booked MOT on the Monday. Is that still legal?

Strictly speaking I believe not unless your house is between wherever you're picking it up & the test centre IIRC

No.

Home address or address where the bike is registered TO the MOT centre and back.

Strictly speaking, your not even supposed to go via a post office to tax it on the way home

? But surely once the vehicle has an MOT you can ride it anywhere?

Or do you mean going to the post office from leaving the pickup place on the way to the MOT centre? In which case you wouldn't be able to tax it anyway? :P

+1

If its currently untaxed and you pass an ANPR car you'll get tugged, they'll find you're technically without insurance and riding a vehicle unsuitable for the road which also isnt taxed. You'll lose the bike and your licence will tkae a mighty beating too.

2 options,
* Get current owner to MOT it then you tax it online.
* Collect it in a van/trailer

No tax = no ride

Mot or not.

I meant that once its passed it mot, you are supposed to take it straight home without going passed a post office to tax it.
The taxing rules have got really tight lately.

Just go outside the MOT centre with your shiney new MOT and Tax by phone.

The penalties of having tax and not displaying are FAR less than not having tax at all.

Ah apologies, missed the 'SORN' bit and assumed it was taxed.

Next question, does anyone near me want to lend me there van on Sunday for a few hours? There's a case of (insert name of favourite beer) in it for you plus I'll replace whatever fuel I use of course.
Couldn't use a trailor as my car doesn't have a tow bar.
