Meta Alarm Trouble - SV650.org

Anyone know their way around a Meta alarm? I took the battery out of my bike to check the type for replacement and left it out for about 48 hours. I put the new battery in yesterday and the alarm was a bit...well, wield. The alarm relay kept chattering and it wouldn't disarm. Seemed to have a loose connection. Anyway, it seemed to sort itself out but this morning it's dead. Does not respond to the remote, no beeps when the battery is disconnected and reconnected - nada!

There seems to be a battery in the unit which charges from the main bike battery. That explains the oddness that ensued after it was effectively left uncharged for 48 hours but not its return to life and subsequent total death.

Was all set for an MOT on Tuesday but now that's all up in the air.

PS: Certain it's not the fobs. Odd behaviour is independent of arming/disarming and I replaced the batteries in both and tested successfully yesterday - when the alarm was momentarily in a happy place.

Done some more investigating and think I know what I need here - a dustbin.

Yeah, had this with my cbr, best advice is to remove it. As most appear to only have reliable life of 5yrs!

Okay, started to unpick the alarm. One spur from the loom goes over towards the starter relay, the other back to the rear cowl.

I'd assumed the alarm just routed power for key circuits through its own switches but that doesn't seem the case. Is that wrong?

Also, it it safe to assume that Mr Suzuki doesn't use insulating tape? I'm working on the basis that insulating tape is going to represent the footprints of the alarm fitter. Seems good so far.

There's a small fuse in a little black block in the loom, sometimes they go.....but when my meta went random, after a battery was left off for a while, it never behaved. It did remember what it was supposed to do for a few weeks then fooked completely. YC removed it and I had it as a garden ornament hung on the washing line for a while after that! Then hit it with a hammer!

Half an hour of wire chasing and the alarm is decommissioned. Will remove it properly at the weekend but for now it's MOT time. Happy days!
