Default Charging system help please.

Bike info.
sv650s k6
13,000 miles
restricted via ecu.

Dead Battery, thought battery was duff so got new a battery - 3 days later and its dead after doing alot * of miles and various rev's and speeds - checked the green connector which iv seen posted up here before, not burn't out & looks clean & sweet.

next guess is the reg is duff - what's a easy, cheap replacement ?
& how hard is it to wire up as its bound to be different connectors..?

Many thanks K1ngy

I guess you have not checked the charging voltage, it should be around 14.5ish V there is allways someone in the family or the people living in your street thats got a voltmeter(mulitmeter)

excuse me if i sound like im being rude..because i dont mean to be :/
.. but this is just my logic

whats the point in doing a volt test?

as all the wires seem fine, green connector which is common is fine & when bikes on with the revs up the front lights increase brightness.. therefore the alternator should be fine? if its making power.. the reg just isnt putting it right in the battery?

Many thanks k1ngy

whilst changing various components will no doubt solve the problem in the end (after all it's what most dealers do) it's an expensive avenue to take, reg/rec checks have been posted numerous time as well as earth leakage and other causes of the issue you discribe, correct diagnostics is the way forward in the first instance, only then do you replace or repair as needed.

Cheers Mark.

but if it was a earth leakage the battery wouldn't be dead straight away? as it would earth itself out, & that means i'll have to go buy one & doult il be using it often as its worth tbh :/ & if it is the reg that's duff then iv wasted money buying a multimeter?.. dont all the problems lead to a reg failure so far?

Many thanks again K1ngy

you do of course know what earth leakage means ? it come in varying degrees and can drain a battery, but the amount and where from can't be guessed at with any accuracy , a £5 multimeter isn't a bad investment anyway.

It's up to you, your time and money, I never advise people to spend without checking first, but then I prefer a more logical systematic approach, numerous times I'm told what a problem is only to find the resolution to it was something else after checking, even if it is your reg playing up I'd confirm that before spending money on another, but each to their own I suppose

Cheers Mark.
