Default Hi there - newbie biker

Hullo hello,

Met a couple of you on your recent weekend up to Scotland at Galloway Activity Centre (we were the noisy stag group in the lodge with the stag in a multi-coloured morph suit) so thought I'd sign up and see what's what!

Absolute beginner biker; going for my CBT this coming Saturday. Been wanting to ride for years and years and partly due to seeing you lot up in Scotland I've finally got around to sorting it out! So any tips/hints/warnings anyone's got would be greatly appreciated
Been trying to figure out a first bike for ages and just can't seem to make my mind up. I like the style of the Ninja & the Fireblade but think they'd both be a bit too powerful as a first bike.

Anyway, rambling a bit. Hi!

hi alex and welcome . i have an sv 650s and passed my bike test 9 weeks ago had a 125 befor that , i think the best way to go is to get an sv restricted , then when you have passed your test you can deristrict it , that way your only haveing to pay out for one bike , the sv is a great learners big bike , and so easy toget use to , there is a lot of stuff about the sv on the web , and you can pick them up at a very cheap price , look on here at some that are for sale , if you do that , money you save can be spent on your new sv , and wont be spent on a bike that you will have to sell if its a 125 , hope you do well in your cbt ,

Aall reet pet. Sorry, that's my best Jimmy Nail impression.
Well welcome, tips with the test I can't really help with as it has changed so much.
Tips with a bike, my personal plan was go for the best protective gear I could afford and a bike that if I dropped it wouldn't mean losing lots of money. That worked pretty well. I would adjust that plan by adding

•Get a bike that is comfortable over long distances.

If you intend on using for weekend blasts comfort may not be as important as styling for you, if you intend to take long trips/weekends away/use everyday to commute then comfort will take priority and you'll need a decent test ride. You may find the sports bike/clip on style you like is very uncomfortable after an hour in the saddle.

Good luck and ride safe.

Fantastic Geordie impressions all round. I'm actually from near down Cambridge originally but have been living in Newcastle for around 7 years now so my Geordie's not much better! Haha

I'll be doing the Direct Entry course when I get around to it (currently 23yo). I was considering getting a restricted bike but my Dad (long time rider) said there's not really much point as they don't necessarily affect insurance/ability etc...

Yeah I've been warned about style over comfort. Think I just need to get to a seller and sit on a few to see what suits me. I think my primary use would be short run abouts; wouldn't be using it for commuting or everyday rides so perhaps long comfort isn't an absolute necessary!

Thanks for the welcomes!

Hello

Good morning

and welcome

Best thing to do is try a few bikes to see which is the most comfortable rather than choosing a bike cause it looks nice.
