Default 520 chain + gearing question + woodcraft clutch cover?

After some searching on here about sv650 gearing I'm either thinking of dropping a tooth on the fron sproket or is it better to keep the front at 15 tooth and go up to a 47 48 tooth on the back?? I hear 14 tooth on front adds ware on the chain? The bike will be used mostly on track,And can some one suggest a 520 chain?

Also I'm lookin at a woodcraft clutch cover from america, has some 1 bought one? Iff so how much was the import duties you have to pay?

Cheers Luke

I bought one. Lovely covers and no more oil leaks! Didn't have to pay any import duties at all.

Go carefully when getting stuff from America. Do a search on here and you'll find some other experiences.

That's why I'm after 1, oil leaks gettin worse.. I'd rather jus buy one of them as I'm keeping the bike and won't have to worry about it, and as you said they look the part to!

I'd rather not buy from america, there's a seller from the uk just put some up on ebay but there £192 and only where 90 somthing from america without postage costs that is

Cheers Luke

If you are on about gearing, that changes from track to track(or should), if you're on a big track you want to just about to max out 5th or 6th gear on the straight, or on a technical track where you might be caught in 3rd alot you might want to use 2nd/3rd or 3rd/4th or maybe go the other way?
So I would say it's wrong to say one or the other when it comes to your question, you should get a few rear sprockets, one or two front sprockets and go from there.
AFAM, D.I.D, Renthal(I know they used to have lightweight sprockets for 520 conv., or was it AFAM??)
Good luck

Ok I see what your saying, so iff I add a couple teeth on the back will it have the same affect as dropping one on the front?? As you said it will change so ill buy a couple of sprokets diffrent sizes, so an X ring 520 chain will be fine iff I spend the money and get a heavy duty one? Cheers for the info Luke

If your getting into racing I would go with full x-ring etc,
I'm just a trackday addict who has done 1 race, I will still go o-ring chain because of wear and I'm not rich enough not to think about how it all ads up.
trackdays = not such a big opening in the money bag.
racing = open that fekker up and let the money roll.

Get whatever chain you want.
You won't do them in much at all with track riding when you compared it to tens of thousands of road miles.

There are some stupidly light bicycle chains that need throwing away after 2 races but not worth bothering with.

X ring is waste of money at best of times, some people even use roller chain because of less friction and weight.
